Snow

As I walked back from class today I passed the Zelazo Center parking lot. I glanced over and noticed the shadows that the cars cast on the snow. The shadows caused the snow in the area around the cars to appear blue in color.

Ice

There are water droplets that have frozen on my window screen. The streetlight from the alley is being picked up by each individual crystal causing them to sparkle. Just about the entire window is covered. It appears as though I am looking through frosted glass.

I apologize for the quality of the image.

The desk lamp next to my computer casts a warm glow on the wall behind. Some distance up the wall it turns harsh and is cut off by the shadows that are cast by my ceiling. The wall color is of a flat tan, "wicker" to be precise, and the warm glow highlights it nicely.

The fixture over my kitchen sink spreads a very washed out yet warm color over the back splash of the counter. It seems very calming, yet bland at the same time.

There is a dusk-to-dawn fixture on the back wall of my parents house. It gives off a light that has a quality very similar to the kitchen light in my previous entry. However, this light provides a greater wash than the other, covering the entire backyard with a dull industrial glow.

Tonight I saw a movie at my place of employment, Portage Theatres. As I sat and waited for the feature to begin I studied the sconces on the side walls. The light that they were emitting cast interesting shadows on the red sound fabric that covers the walls. The fabric is hung in such a way that the distance from the wall varies from 0-4 inches. The result looks much like a ripple. When the light hits only one side of the ripple it creates an interesting shadow.

On my recent trip to Paris I visited the Invalides Museum and Napoleon's Tomb. In the building that housed the tomb there were large stained glass windows. There was one window of particular interest to me(see above images). It had an orange/yellow/amber glow that radiated from the glass. The spill on the marble stairs was great. As the window faced west, and the sun was setting at the time, the effect was magnificent.

The sun is setting over the neighbors rooftop. Because my room is on the third floor my line of sight is right in line with the peak of the roof. As the sun sets, there is a very defined line that grows darker as the sun sets further in the sky.

The campus can be a gloomy place, with all of the concrete buildings and such. Having so many tall structures in close proximity to one another the view can be quite depressing, especially when its cloudy. This was the case today. Late in the afternoon, as studio let out, there was very little sun piercing through the clouds. As a result the campus looked dreary. The shadows
only added to that dreariness.
